New 2026/27 GP Contract

Big changes. More demand. New opportunities. Register now to stay ahead.

Coben Healthcare are super excited that GPs are back at the forefront in terms of funding in Primary Care.

We have been busy working with our clients to ensure we are receiving a vast array of GP opportunities so if you are a GP who has been on the fence about doing locum work, now is the time!

The newly released 2026/27 GP Contract introduces some of the biggest operational shifts in recent years — and for locum GPs, this means increased demandmore flexibility, and new pathways to secure regular work.

£485m Funding Uplift Across General Practice, Major New GP Capacity Scheme (£292m)

A significant shift sees £292m moved from PCN-level funding into a practice-level GP reimbursement scheme, allowing practices to:

  • Recruit more GPs
  • Increase existing GP sessions
  • Directly support same-day urgent access requirements

This means more funded opportunities for locums, especially for practices needing rapid, short-notice cover.

Same-Day Urgent Access Becomes a Contractual Requirement

Practices MUST now:

  • Provide same-day responses for all clinically urgent requests
  • Stop asking patients to “call back tomorrow”
  • Avoid capping online consultation requests

This operational pressure will significantly increase demand for flexible locum GPs who can support urgent care and high-volume triage.

Greater Flexibility in ARRS GP Hiring

The Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) now allows PCNs to hire experienced GPs, not just newly qualified ones.
This widens opportunities for locums to secure longer-term placements through PCN-funded roles
